PLEASE NOTE
I am super busy now, so I am not taking any more submissions until December 1st.
Thanks! Guy
I'm a writer too. I get it! I know what it's like to feel like you're an imposter, your script makes no sense, and "OMG, I've just sent it to someone who might hate it!" That's why I decided to make my script reports super positive, aiming to enable the next draft to shine. I'll be honest, but in a constructive way that encourages you to explore your story and creativity. I’m particularly keen to connect with writers from underrepresented groups who may not be able to afford paid services.
Free? Wait, what?! Yes, if you're an individual then it's free (see below for the Ts & Cs). Reports may be shorter than paid services, but sometimes you just need concise feedback on the big stuff. If you're a company who pay people, then hold on there, slow down, cos that's different, I'll be asking for payment. Message me and we can discuss your requirements.
I've been a producer, director, and writer in media including TV for decades (LinkedIn). I've worked directly with writers professionally, and I've been a Script Reader, Script Consultant and Script Editor for short films, movies and TV shows for Working Title, Alliance Films, Skyline Films, Stinging Bull Films, Ipso Facto Films, the BBC, and independent creatives. I was also Development Assistant at Sky Pictures, and a student of Bang2Write's fab Script Reading course. During Pride month last year, I took part in a free script reading opportunity for LGBTQ+ writers, which inspired this. I love new writing and working with writers, so I'm excited to connect with you next!
Please shout if there's something which isn't covered here.
Scripts only. TV dramas, short film or movies, max 130 pages. You don't have to use professional software, but make sure it's formatted correctly. No books, plays, or radio dramas, as I'm not familiar enough with those to form appropriate critiques. Please note that I’m aiming to only read one script from the same writer every 6 months for free, I will not read multiple drafts of the same project, and while I aim to deliver the report within 2-3 weeks, I can't guarantee an exact timescale. If you have any specific requests/deadlines then we can discuss over email, as this all sounds a bit intense!
As this is free, it'll be punchy and to the point, max 2 pages. I'll outline what I think works and what I think needs work. I won't go into huge detail about grammar, page-by-page analysis of dialogue etc. This is bigger picture stuff: structure, characters, whether the story flows and makes sense. If you're looking for something more detailed then I recommend excellent paid services like Bang2Write, Philip Shelley, Yvonne Grace, Phil Clarke, Pride Reads for extended feedback on LGBTQ+ content, and James Cary for comedy.
I love writing, and reading scripts inspires me to do more. I also want to get back into the professional scripted space again such as drama/film development, so I'm keen to discover the talent that's out there. I’m far too experienced to start nicking ideas, and I absolutely won't! If I start reading and discover that your script is like something I'm doing/want to do, I'll stop reading and tell you immediately. If you have any concerns about that or anything else, please do get in touch.
